The demand for health services by low-income and uninsured individuals in San Diego County exceeds the capacity of health care providers willing to treat them. Imperial Beach Health Center will be opening a second clinic in San Diego’s South Bay in order to increase access to health care for this population. Funding for this ambitious project will be accomplished through grants, loans and fundraising.

Imperial Beach Health Center delivers high quality, cost-effective health care. The San Diego County Healthcare Safety Net Study, released in September 2006, identifies community clinics as a best practice for delivering health care to low income and underinsured individuals.
Imperial Beach Health Center helps reduce the burden on hospital emergency departments. 51.8% of all Emergency Department visits by underinsured patients in San Diego County are for conditions that could be treated by a community clinic, or could have been treated by a community clinic before they developed into true emergencies. Community health centers help reduce health care costs for hospitals and taxpayers.
The San Diego County Healthcare Safety Net Study forecasts that San Diego County will need to increase the number of community clinics by 24% by 2025.
